WeddingSutra’s eye in the sky takes you to destinations where the hottest soirees and power weddings are taking place. So here’s a round-up of where the most high-profile NRI and India-based families are traveling to, and the A-list wedding planners who are orchestrating the events at picturesque islands, royal forts or white-sand beaches.
Milestones to Memories (MtoM): Waldorf Astoria, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE
“This year the Middle East continues to be a hot favorite for destination weddings. An intimate or grand wedding in the Middle East followed by a lavish reception back home is the preferred choice for our clients who are industrialists based in Mumbai and Bangalore. Earlier this year, we managed Mohit Marwah and Antara Motiwala’s (#antumoh) wedding at the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah hotel. (Mohit Marwah is actress Sonam Kapoor’s first cousin). We will be managing another grand wedding of a high-profile industrialist family at the same venue in December this year.”
The Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah hotel can be reached in just 45 minutes by car from the Dubai International Airport. This exclusive property offers the convenience of location as well as beautiful beachfront venues, sprawling indoor spaces, scenic views of the Arabian Sea and even a golf course.
Shaadi Squad: Suryagarh, Jaisalmer and Taj Bekal Resort & Spa
“Last month, we managed a wedding at the majestic Suryagarh, Jaisalmer, in Rajasthan. This luxury hotel has close to nine different venues, most of which are outdoors. This itself is a novelty amongst Indian venues and regal properties. Every venue within Suryagarh is unique and huge! The hospitality and food experience is top notch, and all of this makes it our hottest pick for the coming wedding season.”
“In December, we are looking forward to planning our first wedding and discovering interesting experiences in Kerala. The wedding and post-wedding celebrations are being held at the Taj Bekal Resort & Spa which is just perfect for an intimate destination wedding.”
Suryagarh, Jaisalmer, a luxury boutique hotel, was designed to look like a historic fort. Lying just 18 km from the city airport, it offers distinctive heritage architecture alongside modern amenities. Its charming courtyards, pavilions, domes, ballrooms, outdoor spaces, and exotic Rajasthani accents make it a splendid choice for traditional Indian weddings.
Taj Bekal Resort & Spa lies 80 km from the Mangalore airport. The property’s architecture is inspired by traditional Kerala houseboats, and the lush lawns and beach near the tranquil backwaters are perfect for intimate wedding celebrations.
The Wedding Designers: Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Oman
“In November this year, we are planning a wedding with 350 guests at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in the Sultanate of Oman for a client who is a Gujarat-based business magnate. The functions will be hosted at different venues of the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa which is one of the most sought-after holiday/ celebrations destination in the Middle East. With magnificent ballrooms, large lawns and the main beach, alongside other charming locations such as theTurtle Beach, this unique property has enough venues for big wedding functions.”
The Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, which lies 45 minutes away by road from the Muscat International Airport, mirrors the grandeur of an Arabian palace. Spread over 124 acres, this plush property offers unique touches such as exquisite handmade chandeliers in the main ballroom, a pristine beach, stunning water views and lush gardens surrounded by the contrasting starkness of the Hajjar mountains of Oman.
Perfexion Events: Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, Rajasthan
“No matter which part of the world the ‘Billionaire Club’ travels to, there will be one destination which will always host a super high-profile wedding. And that is the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur which hosts at least two wow weddings every year. While we have been managing weddings all over India, and abroad, managing a palace wedding in our hometown is always a special experience. In December this year, our clients from Pune are hosting their destination wedding at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. All the celebrations will be held in the Palace, and one function will take place at the MehrangarhFort.”
The Umaid Bhawan Palace, which lies just 15 minutes away from the Jodhpur airport, is a majestic magnet that attracts grand weddings among the truly affluent crowd. The yellow desert sandstone exteriors of the palatial property enclose 26 acres of gorgeous gardens, designer interiors and the rich patina of regal history which make a wedding here a truly exotic and extravagant affair.
Vivaah-VOWS: Elexus Hotel & Resort & Spa, Kyrenia, Cyprus
“This week, we are designing the celebrations of an NRI family from Dubai at the newly opened Elexus Hotel & Resort & Spa in Cyprus. This new five-star hotel on the coast between Catalkoy and Esentepe has a huge room inventory, and with its picture-perfect views, it is an ideal destination for a romantic vacation or a family holiday. Cyprus has not played host to many Indian weddings, but going forward this destination will witness more.”
An idyllic island in the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus boasts of immense natural beauty. The new Elexus Hotel & Resort & Spa here is a 25 and 75 minutes ride away from the two airports in Kyrenia where the property is situated. With stunning water views and massive outdoor venues, this property is perfect for large-scale weddings in a relatively new destination for Indian weddings.
Seven Steps: Ciragan Palace Kempinski, Istanbul, Turkey
“This year, we are managing a big wedding at the Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul which has played host to many power weddings and magnificent celebrations of the rich and famous around the world. The wedding with around 400 attendees will unfold at different venues of the Palace hotel, as well as in the Sait Halim Pasha Mansion in the heart of the city which was built in 1878.”
Counted as one among the top 15 most expensive hotels in the world, the Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul has everything to host a destination wedding with a difference. A 45- minute ride from the airport brings one to this stunning property housed in a 19th-century Ottoman palace. Its charming terraces, ballrooms, and manicured gardens offer stunning views of the Bosphorus river. The hotel can host up to 1,000 people making it ideal for large-scale wedding celebrations.
Cineyug Celebrations: Al Bustan Palace, Oman
“Our clients from New Delhi were looking for a lavish property that was easily accessible for their 600 guests. After scouting for locations all over, they decided to host it at the majestic Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz Carlton Hotel in Muscat, Oman. The property was closed for extensive renovations for close to two years and is reopening in a week. So there is much excitement and anticipation even for those who have already been here. All the celebrations will take place at the indoor and outdoor spaces of this hotel which is a symbol of Omani culture and hospitality.”
Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, makes an impression on guests the minute they enter the property which offers stunning natural views of the Hajjar mountains, stony cliffs, the Gulf of Oman’s pristine waves and lush gardens. Situated 45 minutes by road from the airport, this hotel is expected to maintain its position on many of the ‘Best Luxury Hotels’ lists.
What makes a place a super aspirational destination? With top international tourism boards and hotel chains vying for a piece of the Indian wedding pie, what makes some venues/places more sought-after or popular? We asked Sabbas Joseph, co-founder and director of Global Wedding Academy by Wizcraft MIME, to share his insights. “Destinations are chosen or most sought after on the basis of a few factors; the top most being distance – the closer the better. A single flight that is not more than four to seven hours long is desirable.” But while distance is all-important, the uniqueness of a venue or location is equally important. “No other family member or business associate should have used the destination for their wedding/celebrations. The rarer the location, the better, especially if there are romantic or dramatic stories and history associated with it. Other factors like quaintness, privacy and ‘no-one before me’ are also key drivers in making a destination or venue aspirational.”
Instagram star Diipa Khosla tied the knot with diplomat Oleg E.H. Büller and here’s what we know so far about the nuptials that have been dubbed as ‘The Royal Wedding.’
International law student turned influencer, Diipa Khosla, got married to long-term beau, Oleg E.H. Büller at Hotel Fateh Garh in Udaipur, Rajasthan, and the beautiful celebrations were attended by close family and friends.
The picture-perfect wedding was diligently planned by the couple and included an array of interesting activities and themes to match the luxurious venue. This gave their guests an exceptional experience of the rich traditions and culture of Rajasthan.
The wedding included collaborations with Jo Malone London, Estée Lauder, Clinique, MAC Cosmetics, Jimmy Choo, Laurent Perrier Champagne and custom-made wedding dresses from Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Anamika Khanna, Ashi Studio, and more.
The celebrations kickstarted with the mehendi function. For this function, Diipa went for a hairstyle that epitomized old-school Bollywood glamor with a faux fringe. She wore a Sabyasachi ensemble and Oleg donned a Varun Bahl ensemble which made him look like royalty.
For the sangeet, Diipa picked a custom-made Anamika Khanna outfit that was resplendent with delicate embroidery. Her look paired well with Oleg’s, who opted to wear another Varun Bahl outfit. The couple’s elegant entry at the sangeet impressed all.
The haldi function took place on the next day, and Diipa shared that it was her favorite event on her Instagram account. Friends and family had a great time applying turmeric paste on Oleg and Diipa. She kept her look for this function simple yet ethnic with just a touch of blush and pink lips, and floral jewelry in the form of bracelets, a ‘matha patti’ (forehead ornament) and a garland attached to her tresses. Her silky light brown Ritu Kumar ensemble with delicate gold thread embroidery paired well with Oleg’s white traditional Indian outfit. The color of her attire also matched the decor hues, especially the pavilion under which the couple sat during the ceremony.
Diipa’s handmade wedding gown was designed by Syrian designer Mohammad Ashi of Beirut-based Ashi Studio. She termed the ensemble as an “art piece” in an Instagram video and it certainly looked like one. The creamy white canvas of the gown with broad ruffles at the hem was resplendent with exquisite floral embroidery inspired by Indian motifs. It was reported that creating the gown involved the work of 35 artisans and took around 1600 hours of craftsmanship to make. One dramatic element of the ensemble was the artfully draped veil with an embroidered border. Diipa opted for an elegant low bun for the white wedding and kept her earrings simple so that nothing would take attention away from the stunning off-white sartorial masterpiece she wore to her white wedding.
For the wedding, Diipa wore a dark maroon lehenga by Sabyasachi. The skirt was resplendent with floral embroidery and included a dupatta with a broad border. Her jewelry for the big day included an ornate gold choker set, a ‘matha patti’ (forehead ornament), hand ornaments and a set of beautiful bangles. Her bridal makeup was all about youthful freshness. Diipa eschewed the glamorous look and opted for dewy skin and a light blush. She chose fragrances by Jo Malone London to give each room at the venue its own evocative, elegant scent.
MAC Cosmetics’ makeup pro Nisha Sirpal created unique makeup looks for Diipa for the various events that took place over four days. Celebrity hairstylist Aamir Naveed from Aveda designed intricate hair looks for each event.
After exchanging vows and participating in traditional Indian wedding rituals in the presence of their loved ones, the newly married couple stepped hand-in-hand into married life.

One jewel in Cambodia’s crown is the Sokha Hotels & Resorts chain which is the country’s largest luxury hospitality brand and offers distinctive properties located close to the Angkor Wat which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the beautiful bay, in the capital city of Phnom Penh, and on a beautiful highland site. Over the years the Sokha brand has built a reputation of exemplary service and attention alongside exquisite facilities that make every Sokha property an ideal choice for a grand celebration. Inspired by three of the group’s properties, our editors have prepared a mood board of colors and designs that are sure to excite your imagination.
Sokha Beach Resort for a Beachfront Wedding
For couples who want to exchange their vows to the music of the winds and waves, the Sokha Beach Resort is a perfect choice. One highlight here is the beach-facing Seaside Garden which can accommodate around 600 people and commands stellar views of the environs. For a festive function that meshes seamlessly with the resort’s surroundings, WeddingSutra suggests decor with a soothing pastel palette enhanced by organic elements such as flowers, leaves, twigs, and branches that reflect the lush loveliness of the property. Those who want to experience nature in all its forms can opt for a barefoot wedding to feel deeply connected to the elements. Located 25 minutes away from the airport, the Sokha Beach Resort extends to its guests true Khmer hospitality and world-class services. Its 969 rooms, suites, chalets, and private villas offer the highest standards of luxury. Plus, the seven dining and bar outlets overlook one of the world’s most beautiful bays. The resort also has numerous indoor and outdoor venues for any type of function that couples want.
Sokha-Siem Reap Resort & Convention Centre for a Cambodia Inspired Wedding
The local flavors of Cambodia are compelling, and those who wish to immerse themselves in them should pick the Sokha-Siem Reap Resort & Convention Centre as their wedding venue. The plush poolside makes for an ideal outdoor spot for a wedding party where the guest list touches 900. This property offers the authenticity of traditional Cambodian design, so we suggest hosting a wedding that infuses elements of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Angkor Wat. Imagine a mandap that mimics aspects of Khmer architecture created in the middle of the pool with a red carpet aisle leading towards it, golden lights giving the setup in an ethereal glow and vibrant drapes adding to that celebratory feel. The resort offers 1,242 rooms, suites and private villas with the perfect combination of luxury and tranquility. It also has a selection of 11 breakout rooms, eight dining outlets, outdoor catering, and other special arrangements. Rachana Lucknowala of Vivaah VOWs says, “This is a property that I recommend for its sheer size and warm hospitality. They have superb venues and banqueting that are ideal for large gatherings. Moreover, Cambodia is a land which has numerous ancient temples steeped in rich history, which makes it a dream location for couples who have an interest in the Hindu mythological past.”
Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel & Residence for an Elegant Modern Wedding
The capital of the kingdom of Cambodia is home to the majestic Royal Palace that lends the city a regal air. Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel & Residence bring together many regal aspects at their Grand Ballroom which can accommodate 1,600 guests. Here, soaring ceilings, walls draped in rich exotic fabrics and a glistening crystal chandelier unite to create a sophisticated and opulent vibe. To elevate the striking aesthetics of the spaces WeddingSutra suggests making the most of a white color story. Use fresh blooms such as baby’s breaths, roses, lilies and petunias with cascading fabrics, for a romantic appeal. Hints of foliage, a few colorful flowers or even twigs as accents will enhance the beauty of the setup. Strategically located on Chroy Changva peninsula, the hotel offers breathtaking views of the bustling Phnom Penh. The hotel houses a variety of wedding venues that can facilitate up to 3,000 guests with an additional nine breakout rooms. Families can take their pick from 744 well-appointed rooms and suites along with eight dining and entertainment outlets.
Often it takes another person to teach one the significance of love. For Ruturaj love was just a word before Pooja entered in his life. Their deep connection called for a magnificent celebration in Jaipur and the revelries planned and executed by Wedding Sutra Favorite – BigBash Entertainment was every bit deserving of a nod from the royals.
Their engagement spanned over two days and was hosted at the JW Marriott Jaipur Resort & Spa which offers serene surroundings, luxurious rooms, and legendary service. Set amidst the Aravalli Hills, the property pays homage to majestic Rajasthani architecture and style of interiors. With intricate ‘jaali’ (frieze) and ‘tikri’ (mirror or glass mosaic) work, stunning wall paintings and elements that blend modern and classic aesthetics, the hotel enhanced the beauty of their function.
The festivities began with a ‘Classic Jharokha Soiree’ which was an event aimed at letting guests from both sides of the families meet each other and enjoy the palatial property. The function was made more entertaining with performances by Rajnigandha Shekhawat who is known for her energetic folk music.
Themed ‘A Regal Extravaganza’ the canvas of their engagement was painted in shades of white, lavender, peach and green. The decor comprised of exotic flowers like wisterias in white and purple shades, white hydrangeas, cymbidium orchids and roses with touches of lavender carnations and baby’s breath. A lot of lush foliage was a part of the setup too and stood as a pleasing contrast to the otherwise subdued color scheme.
A colossal floral arch welcomed guests into a beautiful passageway that was lined with bouquets and candles which led them to a banquet with a large stage built against a green backdrop. Around 250 gold pipes topped with glowing bulbs completed the stage, and sparkling crystal chandeliers cast an ethereal glow all around. Long tables for the sit-down dinner were decorated with candelabras and fresh blooms, while romantic drapes made for the gorgeous overhead decor.
The Maharashtrian Puja which was an integral part of the event was flawlessly taken care of by BigBash Entertainment and the night was alive with some wonderful music by the band Azadeh. Sharing her experience of planning this event Swati Sabharwal of BigBash Entertainment said, “We got on board only a week before the event date. Considering the time and scale ratio, I would say that this has, by far, been the most challenging and wonderful experience of planning such a special day for the D.Y. Patil family.”

Jennie and Roshan’s wedding, planned by Mpire Events, unfolded in magical venues at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Most of us grew up watching Disney shows and movies, but some couples like Jennie and Roshan included that enduring delight in all things Disney by incorporating it into their special day. They chose to wed at ‘the happiest place on Earth’ – in Disneyworld! The guests stayed at the Renaissance Marriott at Sea World and the celebrations were held at various venues inside the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Interestingly, Mpire Events has become the first wedding planning company from India to organize a wedding in this iconic theme park.
To create a personalized wedding experience, Roshan, Jennie, her Absolute Bollywood crew from London and Vikram from Mpire Events came together for eight long months to conceptualize and execute the extravagant celebrations.Bride Jennie adds, “Vikram from Mpire Events was a joy to work with every step of the way. He was very enthusiastic and attentive which allowed me to enjoy the planning process. His team in Orlando worked tirelessly to make the wedding the success it was. Our guests described the wedding as seamless in term of the event flow and organization which was a result of their hard work.” Infusing Indian traditions with Disney magic, the wedding festivities were magical and the perfect prelude to the rest of the couple’s lives together.
The wedding festivities commenced with the Sangeet ceremony on the first night which was a fusion of traditional and western inspirations while the nuptials took place at the Wedding Pavilion, which is a castle inside the Disney property created around a lake and white sands. A festive Baraat procession was the most awe-striking element of the occasion – it included a mobile DJ vehicle and ‘dhol’ (traditional drums) players from London followed by the Pheras ceremony which had a pastel pink and Cinderella blue color scheme and took place under a flamboyant Mandap. Lush floral accents, complete with a backdrop view of the Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park added to the fairytale charm of this function.
Preceded by the traditional ceremonies, a grand dinner and reception was held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The guests enjoyed a special Bollywood + Disney medley act by the bride and her Absolute Bollywood crew and an energetic performance by Zalon and his band. In addition, the glitz and glamour of the after-party with Dj Suhel featuring glowing furniture, dessert stations, and savory sliders were highly-popular with the guests. The couple also had a stunning portrait session at the Magic Kingdom featuring the iconic Cinderella’s Coach. Team Mpire Events worked closely with the couple to create a montage of personal experiences that blended their culture, traditions and individual interests to make their fairytale dream a reality.

From months to days and now, just a few hours, Bollywood’s most awaited wedding is finally about to take us by storm. While the wedding dates were revealed much before, Deepika and Ranveer’s wedding venue was kept under wraps.
We’re not surprised the couple selected a destination as special and unique as their bond, Villa Del Balbianello, Lake Como.
Here’s something about the wedding venue: Situated at the top of a wooded peninsula it is one of the most scenic wedding locations of the world. With two residential buildings, a church, and a portico that overlooks a little dock, the stunning property materializes a wonderland you would only hope to come across in a fairy-tale. It takes center stage on Lake Como and offers 360-degree panoramic views of the best that nature has to offer.
The dreamy villa boasts a heritage that dates back to the 18th century when it was originally built for Angelo Maria Durini, and last belonged to Guido Monzino, an explorer who led the 1973 Italian expedition which reached the top of Mount Everest.
Now owned and managed by the Italian National Trust, the wonderland has not only acted as the wedding venue for many but has also been the backdrop for films like A Month by the Lake (1995), His Demise starring Paul Zukowski (2016 disaster movie), Casino Royale (2006). For all the Star Wars fans, we are sure you’re already familiar with the venue’s beauty. The villa was also used for the lake retreat scenes in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002), with a computer-generated imagery used in place of the building’s true exterior.
And if the glorious gardens and vistas don’t already spell a serene escape, the path to the venue definitely does! Creating an unforgettable experience in itself, the access to the villa is usually by boat. The paths that lead from the boat docks are lined with lush trees, manicured lawns, statues and wisteria that not only make great viewing points but are also ideal reception sites. A narrow path from the village of Lenno also leads to the villa.
The property has seen many exchange vows at its 3 arched loggia which offers a spectacular view of Bellagio, and if this is where our Bollywood Jodi decided to tie the knot, we’re sure they’ll enhance its unmatched beauty!

Ultraviolet enjoyed the limelight this year but it’s now time to move on from the limitless night sky and dive into an ocean of optimism! At Art Basel Miami, the color standards company announced ‘Living Coral’ the Pantone Color of the Year 2019. A combination of pink and orange with an undertone of gold, the color resonates with festivity, warmth and care.
And here’s how you can incorporate shades of Living Coral into your wedding elements during your wedding planning.
They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But what happens when you have a Vegas-style rager in India, well, we’re here to spill the beans.
When party starter experts from the wedding industry start conjuring up a celebration, you know a wonderland will unfold. Krupa Doshi and Ruchit Mehta managed a shindig for the ages in exotic Amby Valley.
Fresh from its re-launch, Amby Valley opened its gates and this party swung right in. With WeddingSutra Favorites Kkings Events and Swaaha WMC on their team, the ‘Dementia Land’ themed bash truly sets some major goals. From toothy grins and carefree laughs to blurry moments, WeddingSutra Favorite Reels & Frames caught it all. Together, the three spirited teams made sure the event was smooth sailing! Here are some mind-boggling details shared with us.
Keeping in mind the groom’s dream of hosting a 24-hour bash, the event was divided into two, The Carousal and Classic Insanity.
With fancy food counters, an elaborate 20-feet butterfly stage set-up, the Carousal sure did begin the day with a surprise! The property’s poolside got a vibrant makeover with colorful drapes, bright umbrellas, and Ferris wheel miniatures all over!
A fun fact about the groom’s quirky attire; he designed it himself! And carrying it off with such swag, he definitely made a statement. As for the music, DJ Madoc got the guests in a concert vibe which was enhanced with awesome stage effects and CO2 guns.
The Carousal party, got everyone drinking until they were silly. As the sun went down, the party moved to its next inning.
Classic Insanity welcomed guests into a winter wonderland with a 360-degree mapping.
Coupled with the low temperature at Aamby, the vibe was truly excellent. The 360-degree mapping was supported with a highlight island bar. Standing behind the counter and handling the drinks was a popular name in the industry, Binny Dhadwal of DRINQ!
Live performances by reputed artists had everyone grooving until the couple made a grand entry. Classic turned to Insanity as DJ Amann Nagpal took to the stage with his team. While the entire event was an unusual one, the biggest highlight was the champagne bottle our groom popped. Now a 24-hour cocktail does call for something different right? Ruchit popped a 9-litre champagne bottle and after showering everyone with the bubbly, let’s just say they made history, including some historical hangovers!
Kunal Samtani’s extravagant wedding to Divya Vaswani at the Centara Grand West Sands Resort & Villas in Phuket, Thailand, was at par with the #DeepVeer nuptials when it came to scale, sensational decor and gorgeous looks. Kunal, who is the scion of the Hong Kong-based Samtani business empire, first met Divya at a party in Hong Kong and after that there was no looking back. Over the four-day affair, the cynosure of all eyes, apart from the stylish couple, was Mala Samtani, the groom’s mother. The wedding also saw the who’s who of Bollywood dressed to the nines! Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Salman Khan, and Esha Gupta were in attendance as Kunal and Divya tied the knot.
A youthful Mala cut a dashing figure in exquisite outfits and gorgeous jewelry. Her ensembles were from various leading designers, and her jewelry was from top names such as Farah Ali Khan, Temptations, Gehna Jewellers, Royal Enterprises, and Butani Jewellery. Makeup maestro Ojas Rajani did her makeup and was responsible for Mala’s glowing and fresh visage all through the long, fun ceremonies.
The wedding celebrations were a fitting culmination of a lovely relationship that started at a New Year Eve party in Hong Kong and reached the next step when Kunal proposed to Divya on the eve of his birthday. He took her to their favorite date spot at Repulse Bay in Hong Kong and went down on one knee and popped the question.
The celebrations at the Centara Grand West Sands Resort & Villas in Phuket were planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Mantra Events Thailand and Innaz Communique. The groom rode a rickshaw to the mehendi ceremony with his bride seated behind him. Check out other highlights of Deepak and Sakshi’s wedding celebrations held in Kathmandu, Nepal
Sakshi and Deepak hosted their wedding at the sprawling Hyatt Regency in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu. The memorable celebrations were planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Evolve Weddings. Here, Varun Dua of Evolve Weddings shares some interesting highlights of the events.
Wedding Venue
Varun shares, “The groom’s brother visited Kathmandu for a business trip once, and from there he sent photographs of Hyatt Regency to us. Both Sakshi’s and Deepak’s families fell in love with this five-star luxury hotel and resort that is set on 37 acres of landscaped grounds. They decided at that moment that it was going to be their wedding venue.”
Wedding Functions
Retro Night
The festivities kick-started with a fun Retro Night for which only the immediate family members of the bride and groom were invited. They were given props like mustaches, bow ties and sunglasses that evoked the 1980’s fashion era. The vibrant color theme and bright lighting further enhanced the mood at the venue.
Mehendi
For the mehendi, a color palette of lemon yellow, pink, green, and orange for the decor made for a beautiful blend of hues. With props like gota and marigold hoops, colorful bangles and decorative hangings, the outdoor venue looked dreamy and inviting. Varun shares, “The main highlight of this function was the ‘Wish by the Thumb Tree’ and the placards with unique quotes. The couple entered the venue with the groom riding a rickshaw and the bride sitting behind him.”
Sangeet
“For the glitzy sangeet, the decor featured sparkling LEDs and a unique ‘mirchi’ (chillies) light effect. The molecular bar arranged by Indo Fusion Cocktail Services was a major success that evening,” shares Varun. To keep the guests entertained on this night, the New Delhi-based band, The Funky Boyz belted out tunes that kept the party going till the wee hours of the morning.
Hawaiian Party
After a heady sangeet party, it was time for a Hawaiian bash. The simple and stylish Hawaiian decor with thematic props like colorful sunglasses, feather stoles, and colorful garlands added a quirky element to the party. There was also foam and rain dance arrangements done by Evolve Weddings that were a great hit with the guests.
Wedding
Varun shares, “The theme for the wedding night was ‘Wed-in-Red’, and the decor was all about the bold red color. Adding a little Nepali style to the wedding, the groom decided to make an entry a royal Nepali buggy! The garlanding ceremony took place on the main porch of the property while the rest of the rituals were done in the ballroom. Nepali chaats and sweets were the main highlights of the lovely sit-down dinner. We even hired a local Nepali band to perform at this event.”

When two masters of their craft align their vision, a wonderland is bound to unfold itself. Such was the case at Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal’s grand reception hosted at Jio Gardens.
While the wedding saw floral masterpieces by a popular name, Jeff Leatham, we’ve heard the magnificent set-up at the post-wedding celebration was jointly designed by the King (Preston Bailey) and made into a reality by the Queen (Havovy Readymoney) of the wedding décor space.
Who are these nobles? You may wonder. Well, while the emperor of the industry, Preston Bailey hails from the U.S. as one of the best wedding designers in the world, offering similar detailing in India is Her Majesty, Havovy Readymoney of Afreen Wedding Services one of the most sought-after wedding designer and floral artist in the country.
A little about the two, Preston Bailey has created various art installations across New York, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Taiwan, and London. As a part of his PB Protégé program, he offers a series of masterclasses that cater to industry professionals of all levels.
Havovy Readymoney founder of Afreen Wedding Services on the other hand, has catered to the who’s who of the Country for over 22 years from the Bachchans, Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, Poonawalas, Birla’s, Mittal’s, Jindal’s, various corporate heavyweights and countless other high profile clientele to name a few. They are a bespoke wedding design and floral artist company based in Mumbai. Offering services such as destination wedding solutions, out of the box design concepts uniquely breathtaking floral masterpieces, wedding and event design as Havovy & her kin Jehangir & Aliya are paving the way and vivaciously taking the floral industry to the next level in India.
As for the remarkable work the two did at the Ambani Reception, their expertise speaks for itself. With elaborate stage set-ups, floral chandeliers a never seen before giant mosaic floral canopy and a jaw-dropping entrance, the lush Jio Gardens made for a flower power wonderland. A closer look at the décor highlights their meticulous approach. Playing with flowers, especially exotic vandas, and unusual varieties of Dutch flowers that they carefully curated were used to illuminate the manicured lawn with a never seen before approach, this was a once in a lifetime experience.
An iconic destination that recreates the majesty of the Ottoman Era, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray is a spectacular resort that allows its guests to indulge in the extravagance and timeless culture of Arabian hospitality. Samar and Siddiqui hosted their reception at this outstanding property and transformed their celebration into an evening their guests will never forget.
Samar and Siddiqui were introduced to each other by their parents and soon their acquaintance turned into romance. A little while later, Siddiqui decided to take things forward and planned a romantic proposal over a scrumptious dinner at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. With the help of the hotel’s supportive staff, he put together a dreamy setup. Samar said, “Yes!” and with that, the wedding preparations began.
The couple entrusted TA Weddings with designing their day of dreams. From the photography to the cake to the décor, TA Weddings did a perfect job. At the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray the team created the most breathtaking setup in a muted color palette. This sophistication added a layer of elegance to the hotel’s carefully hand-painted interiors, a testimony to the magnificence of the Golden Tulip Era of the Turkish Empire.
Rich drapes in off-white and beige made for the backdrop of the stage and numerous chandeliers threw pools of golden light beneath clouds of flowers suspended from above. The couple’s seating was flanked by white floral arrangements accented by blooms in the softest pink.
Speaking of her experience working with the hotel, Tasneem Alibhai of TA Weddings said, “The initial plan was to host this function in the garden and the entire setup was done there. However, at around 11 am, it started pouring incessantly and we had to switch to Plan B, which was to move the party indoors. Our venue, the Music Hall was available but the venue’s capacity allowed 450 people whereas we were a party of 650. Nonetheless, the staff at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray took this challenge into their stride and made this event happen in less than five hours! Everything worked out wonderfully!”
The couple made their entrance alongside Arabic performers and a short show was followed by the cake cutting. The guests indulged in delectable delights crafted by the culinary experts at this 5-star property and were treated to stunning unrivaled views of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai’s skyline.

2018 was the year of the big, fat, Indian wedding. Bollywood royalty, sports stars, richie-rich industrialists all seem to want to outdo each other with grand and grandiose celebrations that ranged from opulent to plain OTT.
But with 2019 just a few heartbeats away, we are sensing a few upgrades and some evolutions.
Let’s take a look at what’s coming our way.
Make the Wedding Bright with Neon Light
That chemistry needs electricity and neon lights are what all the cool couples will be lighting their lives up with. Vibrant, glow signs will appear at weddings in the form of directional signs, welcome signage and photo booth backdrops. Bonus? Not only are neon signs fun and functional, they’re also a quirky, kitschy home-décor piece for after the wedding.

Living Coral for a Lively Wedding
With ‘Living Coral’ announced as the Pantone color of 2019, wedding decor this year will be tinted in young and fresh palettes of this playful hue. There are so many different directions one can take with this color – combine it with sea foam or aqua hues, pair with blush pinks and champagne or use it against ivory and beige. Adding Living Coral to table displays, flower arrangements, or even the groom’s tie will bring warmth and brightness to the occasion.
Live Band and a DJ to Set the Floor on Fire
If your wedding party loves to groove, don’t pick between a DJ and a Live Band. Get both and set the floor on fire! Couples are enjoying treating their guests to a live band performing high-energy tracks. And after that, a DJ will spin your favorite songs on request, so hire both and get them to collaborate for some unique entertainment.
The Food Graze-Craze
Straight from the trend of clean eating and conscious consumption – the big food trend this year will be grazing tables. A feast for the eyes as well as the palate, nothing compares in terms of the freedom to play with an array of textures, flavors and cuisines. Forget fuddy-duddy old buffet style plates piled high with staples. If there’s one thing that gets guests mingling, it’s a table groaning with delicious antipasti, charcuterie, cheese and dips!

Smoke Without Fire
Boom! Smoke bombs aren’t going anywhere in 2019. In fact, they are more popular than ever! At Indian weddings, you can never have enough colors to deck up the venue. Expect clouds of color painting the wedding scene pretty while bringing in a kind of appeal that is both dramatic and romantic at the same time.
Install Art for Wedding Décor that wins Hearts
It’s a trend that’s been in the making as décor gets more original and creative. Instant wows are guaranteed when weddings incorporate actual art and installations into the set up. Whether it’s an aisle runner inscribed with poetry masquerading as vows, wall murals ‘painted’ in flowers and light or a sculpture rendered in mesh for an ethereal effect, art in all its avatars is coming to a wedding near you.

Marry While The Sun Shines
Millennials will tell you that brunch isn’t a meal, it is a lifestyle. And with the majority in love with this way of living, this trend should not come as a surprise. We present to you the brunch wedding! Daytime celebrations can be just as festive as those hosted after sunset and what makes this deal even better is the gorgeousness that natural light brings to the photographs!

Wedding Venue That Defines You
As we move into the new year, locations for exchanging vows are going to get a lot more exciting. The usual – hotels, lawns and banquets – will be replaced with wineries, cruises, historic landmarks and more – and with good reason. When the occasion is such a momentous one, why should the venue be any less remarkable!
Cake That’s Not A Cakewalk
A wedding cake isn’t just another dessert. It is the focal point of the reception and couples in 2019 will ensure that when their guests rest their gaze on this confection, they won’t be able to tear their eyes away. Expect distinctive shapes, striking designs and unique colors. We’re talking about masterpieces so breath-taking Marie Antoinette would rethink the ‘let them eat cake’ diktat immediately.

Wedding Invites that Invite Creativity
Illustrated wedding invitations are getting more and more personal this year. Prepare to receive wedding cards with paintings of the couple, the locations where they are getting married at and maybe even a custom portrait of their pet who will be the ring-bearer at their ring ceremony! The idea will be to synergize the wedding aesthetic with the invitations so that not only do they leave an impact but also give the guests a glimpse into the upcoming celebrations.

Eco-Friendly Weddings To Nurture Nature
A wedding in alignment with nature and its wellbeing is the need of the hour and with everyone beginning to understand its importance, weddings that follow eco-friendly practices will be more numerous. Digital invitations, decor using local flowers, menus designed using seasonal produce – these are only a few ways in which nuptials are going to earn good Earth mama karma literally.

Smells like Wedding Spirit
Smell is a sense that shares a close association with memory and to make their wedding an unforgettable experience, couples will be making their way to perfumers to create a signature scent at their celebration. The scents will manifest as perfumed invites that guests will receive, the fragrance diffused in the air at the venue during the events and scented candles as wedding favors. It’s the perfect way to mark the memory indelibly and it just ‘makes scents’!

The Big Switch in Wedding Traditions
As the world evolves, wedding traditions evolve too. Cross-cultural practices are making their way into Indian weddings – like bridesmaids and groomsmen – and there’s a whole gender neutral angle to this as well. Enter the Bride’s Men and the Groom’s Women! If the groom’s best friend is his sister, nothing should stop him from letting her be the ‘best woman’. And, if the bride’s best friend is a guy, she should be able to have a ‘Man of Honor’. In the end, it is about having those who the couple loves the most being close to them on their big day.
Wedding Dress to Impress
Every year sees more experimentation in the bridal trousseau and 2019 is already looking exciting. Steering clear of template bridal lehengas, say goodbye to cookie-cutter designs and look out for aesthetics that include elements unique and important to the bride – sexy silhouettes, heritage embroidery, new age dupattas, edgy fabric, you name it, they’ll wear it.

Escape to Exotic Honeymoons
So you can’t actually witness this at the wedding but it’s worth mentioning. Honeymoons are getting out of this world. Couples are eschewing the same old same old and heading to truly exotic spaces – the ice scapes of Finland, the little known paths of South America like Chile and Peru and even the unexplored bits of Ireland! Buy a map. You may need it.
On the 7th of September, 2018, the Supreme Court scrapped Section 377, a 158-year-old colonial law. Independence Day for the Indian rainbow community, love finally had no barriers! And just like all struggles, this particular battle includes many unsung heroes like Keshav Suri.
Always having equal opportunities at work and in life, in 2017, Keshav started #PureLove, a social media campaign talking about inclusivity and diversity. With the abolishment of the regressive anti-homosexual law, Keshav decided to tie the knot with his longtime partner and love of his life, Cyril Feuillebois!
Their Goa celebrations, orchestrated by WeddingSutra Favorite Vogue Luxury Weddings, was a beautiful affair we can’t stop gushing over.
Keshav shared some heart-warming moments from their fairy-tale.
He says, “When Cyril and I met a party at the 24/7 Bar at The Lalit, New Delhi, it was an instant connect. Little did we know, we would move on to imagine an eternity together! Our story of 10 years finally reached a ‘happily ever after’ when we exchanged vows in Paris in June this year. I love this man so much, I married him twice in the same year. If required, I would do so over and over again, in this life and the countless that follow.”
Keshav says the moment was very special as they celebrated this cherished event with family and close friends. Pure happiness, family and friends like family and true love are universally recognizable. Hash-tagged #kitcyphrenia, photographs from the intimate affair struck a chord with anyone who happened to get a glimpse of them.
“With the reading down of Section 377, we just had to celebrate our union with immediate family and close friends here in India,” Keshav explains. “So, we decided to host another three-day wedding affair in Goa, and the celebration turned out better than my imagination! Shruti and her team from, Vogue Luxury Weddings meticulously worked to bring out unrivaled color themes and design elements. After Paris, we exchanged vows here, this time against the breath-taking backdrop of a setting sun. Our respective sisters walked us down the aisle, to reach the stunning beach setting where our mothers stood to facilitate the vows. We also had a transgender high priestess officiate the ceremony.”
“While the entire experience is something I’ll always treasure, my performance with my mother during the ball left me teary eyed! As she smiled, and elegantly danced with me to a choreographed number in front of the crowd, I realized how fortunate I am. Explaining the lyrics to everyone present, she said, ‘Life is a mystery for each of us to unravel in a way we see fit. We can choose to be happy or completely destroy ourselves, I choose to be happy and I wish the same for all of you too!’ She is truly an inspiration.”
The women in Keshav’s life are all inspirational and the 80’s theme ball was proof of it. He says, “My sister, Deeksha encouraged everyone to be in drag! A cousin and a few of my friends were in their best drag outfits representing the 80’s.” Bringing unparalleled glamor to the night, performances by drag divas Violet Chachki, Rani Ko-HE-Nur, Maya – The Drag Queen and Betta Naan Stop had everyone in awe. Keshav recounts in glee, “DJ Kiss, NickV and Resident Kittens played music throughout, DJ TN DAO and Avantika Bakshi also surprised us with impromptu sets. Violet and Hungry broke into an impromptu dance as well! With his friends, Cyril also set fire to the dancefloor to ‘our song’, ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ by Kaene. He made me recall the time he proposed marriage to me as this song played in the background.”
Not to be outdone, Keshav himself was the belle of the ball in a Gaurav Gupta masterpiece!
Advice for Couples
Keshav reminds couples, “The purpose of the festivities was to send out a strong message about equality and to break the shackles of gender that bind us. To anyone and everyone out there battling identity or acceptance issues, just hang in there, it gets better. Continue to be true to yourself and the world will accept you eventually.”
After their wedding in Paris and party in Goa, the couple jetted off to Morocco for a romantic escape. We wish them a future full of happiness, love, togetherness and a whole lot of groovy dancing!
